Cadet Force Celebrates 107th Anniversary with Annual Inspection Parade [with Video]

The Trinidad and Tobago Cadet Force celebrated its 107th anniversary with its Annual Inspection Parade which was held at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima. Four companies of cadets were inspected by His Excellency Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona O.R.T.T., S.C., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Also present at the parade were Honourable Major General (Ret’d) Edmund Dillon, Minister of National Security; Honourable Glenda Jennings, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of National Security; Mr. Ruben Hansraj, Chairman of the Cadet Force Advisory Committee (CFAC); and representatives of the various formations of the Defence Force and protective services.


In his address, His Excellency praised the resilience of the cadets on parade, and spoke on a number of issues as they pertained to the development of the organisation. He praised some of the advances of the Cadet Force during the past year including:

  1. The establishment of the first All-Female Naval Cadet Unit at Holy Faith Convent, Couva
  2. The establishment of the first Islamic All-Female Unit at ASJA Girls’ College in Charlieville

“Seeing on television the glint and deep pride of those ASJA girls was a ‘wow’ moment for me personally, and for Trinidad and Tobago.” His Excellency shared. “It represents a strong symbol of female empowerment, and the strength and power of our inclusive diversity in our country, the region and the wider world.”

Turning to the Commandant, Colonel Robinson he then said “…let me be blunt here. It demonstrates inspirational leadership, sir.”

This year’s parade also included other firsts.

President Carmona addresses cadets who fell ill at the parade at the medical tent. Looking on are (from left) Honourable Brigadier General (ret.) Edmund Dillon, Minister of National Security; Colonel Ellis Robinson, Commandant and; Capt. Derek Williams, Medical Officer.

Also a first, Cadet Warrant Officer Class 2 Samuel, N. joined the Colour Party, performing the role of Conducting Warrant Officer.

Parade Commander – Maj K Jones
Parade Second-in-Command – Capt. K McIntyre
Parade Adjutant – Lt C Persadsingh
Parade Sergeant Maj – WO1 V Laptiste
Parade Drill Sergeant – Cadet WO1 M Campbell

At the parade, adult members who have given twelve years of meritorious service are awarded the Cadet Force Medal by His Excellency. The following adults received medals this year:

  2. WO1 Genevieve Ganga
  3. WO1 Sheldon Baron
  4. WO2 Daryl Paul
  5. WO2 Bianca Charles
